Jean-Yves Le Drian, Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs, at the Alliance Française de Banjul!

The Minister and his delegation, including his Excellency Mr. Christophe Bigot, Ambassador of France to Senegal and The Gambia, visited the Alliance Française de Banjul on November 5, 2018 with Honorable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mamadou Tangara, who was also President of the Alliance.

After being welcomed by Dr. Cherno Omar Barry, the current president, and his new director, Mr. Patrice Crivello, they met the management committee of the French School of Banjul led by Mr. Charbel Elhajj, Honorary Consul of France in Banjul, as well as members of the Alliance’s Management Committee.

The minister then greeted twenty students from a neighboring Gambian school who had come to practice the French language in the media library’s multimedia space, and in the multipurpose room, some fifty students and executives who were composing for the exam. While crossing the entrance hall, he was able to enjoy the paintings of Njogu Touray, a famous artist from The Gambia, having a glimpse of his work with two old paintings that celebrate the festive creativity of Africa and a recent production from a collective project of street art, even if, the main part of the exhibition testifies to its will to draw on the tradition by valuing the role of the "invisible" woman as pillar of the society.

Then, he concretely observed the support of France to the democratic consolidation of the new regime, through a program of military cooperation of the French Embassy in Dakar, by exchanging with officers of the Gambian army who followed an interactive French language courses.

Finally, the visit of the construction site of the new French school, soon relocated on the ground of the Alliance, allowed to imagine the future "Espace France" located in the city center.
