News of the Alliance


The French Embassy, the French Institute of Senegal in Dakar and Saint-Louis, the Alliances françaises of Kaolack, Ziguinchor, and Banjul, will include in 2020 their cooperation action within the framework of the Africa 2020 Season, which is an invitation to work differently between African and French partners. We wanted to be inspired by the founding principles, pillars and lines of thought chosen by Ngoné Fall, the General Commissioner for the season. Our ambition is to define a programme that can, from the beginning of 2020, contribute to the echo, on the African continent, of the season that will be held, from June, throughout France.


Selection criteria
The selection criteria are based on the founding principles defined for the Season Africa 2020 :

  • A representative vision of Africa that may include the diaspora;
  • The development and management of new projects; "first-time participants" will be given priority;
  • The inclusion of these projects in the framework of relations with civil societies, actors of the change and the state of contemporary African societies;
  • The multidisciplinary nature of projects focusing on contemporary creation and aimed at all the public;
  • Projects designed as spaces of knowledge and experience promoting the exchange of know-how and the debate on ideas.

NB: Projects must go beyond simple events and help to structure local cultural ecosystems.

Disciplines concerned
The field of activity includes all artistic disciplines (including gastronomy, fashion, design, architecture, sliding sports and urban sports) sciences and the debate of ideas. Projects aimed at strengthen the cultural economy in Senegal and Gambia (cultural entrepreneurship, strengthening of the cultural sector, strengthening of the cultural sector skills, professionalization) will be strongly encouraged.

The projects selected must be in line with the priorities chosen by Ngoné Fall for the Africa 2020 Season:

  • Enhanced Orality: knowledge dissemination, social networks, technological innovations;
  • Economy and Fabulation: the redistribution of resources, financial flows, economic emancipation;
  • Archiving of imaginary stories: history, memory, archives;
  • Fiction and (unauthorized) movements: the movement of people, ideas and goods, as well as the notion of territory (physical or virtual);
  • Systems of disobedience: political consciences and movements, as well as the notion of citizenship


  • Early November: Launch of the call for projects
  • 15th January 2020 at the latest: applications must be submitted to the following address:
  • January: Selection Committee

Preparation of files
The files must be accompanied by the completed grant application form (attached form) and the various documents mentioned at the bottom of the form:

  • Grant application letter (dated, quantified in euros and signed) addressed to Mr Pascal Moulard, Deputy Cocac and Deputy Director of the Institut français du Sénégal in Dakar
  • Statutes and receipt for associations or EIG / NINEA for other structures
  • Detailed project, in PDF format
  • Overall balanced budget in expenditure and revenue
  • Full statement of bank account (IBAN/BBAN and SWIFT/BIC code) in the name of the structure and issued by the bank;

NB: The requested grant may not exceed 50% of the total budget

NB: Structures that received a grant in 2019 must fill in the attached expense report, scan the originals of the corresponding invoices and send them by e-mail to the above-mentioned address.
A commission will meet to select projects corresponding to the criteria set out above as well as to the missions and priorities of the cultural cooperation network.
