Alliance Française de Banjul has a long history of serving the Gambian community by offering French language programmes and supporting local and international Francophone cultures. Established in 1948, Alliance is one of the oldest non-profit organisations in The Gambia. It is recognised for its commitment to quality education and support for creative work.
Alliance Française de Banjul is a local association that operates autonomously and independently, without any political or religious affiliation, under the supervision of an elected board of local volunteer members.
To develop the teaching and use of the French language at all levels, catering for students of all ages and backgrounds in an interactive and friendly environment. We offer structured and progressive French courses based on the Common European Framework for Languages. These courses lead to internationally recognised diplomas including the “Diplôme d’études en langue française” (DELF).
To encourage the promotion and dissemination of French-speaking cultures through various programmes and recreational and educational activities.
To contribute to linguistic and cultural diversity by encouraging intercultural exchange and debate in an environment of tolerance.
Promote Gambian cultures and support local creation through calls for projects, support for artists and a policy of joint artistic residencies.
Affiliated to the Alliance Française Foundation in Paris, Alliance Française de Banjul is part of the worldwide network of Alliances Françaises created in 1883, composed of 832 alliances, present in 131 countries, spread over the 5 continents.
Alliance Française de Banjul is also part of the French network of cooperation and cultural action in Senegal and Gambia, made up of the Alliances Françaises of Banjul, Kaolack, Ziguinchor and the French institutes of St Louis and Dakar.
